What's missing - Social Studies textbook, USA

The pages that give the bare minimum facts of the Empire, then Soviet, then CIS and Russian Federation are a bit dated, but factual in the limited scope of their purpose. Still it is a useful exercise to ask: what is missing from this published and widely sold impression?
